How Big is Your Carbon Foot Print

Well it’s no secret that I love and support the World Wild Life Fund quite simply for all the wonderful work they do to help preserve and protect our wildlife and ecosystems.

Recently I was reading an article on their site that was discussing issues with measuring your own carbon footprint.  It’s a great read and I encourage you to take a look at the article here.

What really shocked me was to read that Australia has one largest ecological footprints per capita. That means we need more of the earth’s natural resources to offset the impact we have on it. The main problem is the green house gas emissions we create here in Australia (currently;y we omit over 14 tonnes per household)

The World Wildlife Funds article states  “If all countries consumed the resources that we Australian’s do, it would take the biocapacity of three Earths to support their lifestyle”. That’s a bit scary, so if you feel as passionate about making a difference to this place we live, why not try the footprint calculator to test your own personal carbon foot print - click this link here to get started.

I believe that once we gain an awareness about any issue, it makes it very hard to ignore that issue (with a clear conscious anyway).

Leave a comment below and let me know how you scored on the test and I will post my results her shortly as well.

Tomorrow I collect the first of what I hope to be millions of plastic moulded products that will go to every part of the world, I’m going to need to plant trees on the moon also to offset my carbon footprint but it’s the unavoidable dilemma we face being a leading producer and having little option when international competitive cost controls our very survival, it’s the encouragement of yourself and triggers like this calculator and concerns that you post make people like me more aware of their obligations, well done and please keep it up.

    Hi Ross,
I think its great that you have a conscience when it comes to our use of plastics, and maybe you are right but I don’t think the trees will fare very well on the moon. Ha ha !
A better idea would be to investigate ways in which as a business you could offset some of your carbon use. WWF has a great website and they have some great suggestions.
Also .. it’s not so much company’s like yours we need to worry about, It’s more our daily use of plastics that end up in the ocean and in landfill that worries me immensely. Our constant use of plastic in our packaging of our food especially is like a naughty habit that we as humans need to curtail.
Good on you for thinking about this issue Ross , and good luck with your new business.~ Mimi
